Updates Changes to the Teaching System
Updates Changes to the Teaching System Are you interested in getting online language lessons or speaking practice? Weve made some important updates to the website that we hope will make it easier to find a teacher that suits your needs! We are separating our Language Teachers into Community Tutors and Professional Teachers. Secondly, we will divide the services which are provided into formal Language Lessons, Speaking Practice, and Language Exchange. What has changed? * Weve made a new menu for the website that will make it easier to pick a service Language Lessons, Speaking Practice, Language Exchange (and of course Answers, Notebook, and Groups) * We have new profiles for Users, Teachers, and Tutors. Now you can make it clearer what youre looking for, whether it is a Chinese language exchange partner or a teacher to practice English. * We have a simplified rating system for teachers * We have made it easier to contact other users, particularly teachers and tutors What Teacher Service should I choose? If you wish to just focus on speaking practice or getting help on your homework, then you can take a session with our Community Tutors. A Community Tutor is generally a native speaker of the language, but does not work as a teacher or have formal training as a teacher. A Community Tutor is great for people who are already taking lessons offline, or are intermediate / advanced level. Many Community Tutors also prepare in-depth lessons like Professional Teachers. Professional Teachers are able to give formal language lessons, and teach you how to learn all aspects of a foreign language. Professional teachers are trained in a teaching method, and can provide a structured approach to learning. Professional Teachers are necessary for beginner level students, and are a faster way to progress for advanced and intermediate level students. For any questions about these upcoming changes, please check out the italki support forum or email support@italki.com.
Wait ... Everyone Cant Donate Blood
Wait ... Everyone Cant Donate Blood floridapolitics.com According to a statement made by the bank: âThe blood center is at full capacity and is asking donors to help over the next several days to help replenish the blood supply ⦠Thousands of people packed our donor centers and blood drives eager to donate and help replenish the blood supply. Your immediate response to help patients in need was unprecedented and remarkable.â According to Orlando Health, âWe have experienced a huge outpouring of support. Local blood banks have over 600 units of blood on hand, which is more than usual as a result of all the donations.â Still, with all of this support, there was also serious controversy. It happened when individuals learned that restrictions barring sexually active, gay men from donating blood still stood, even after such a tragedy. People turned to social media to express their anger at this ban, as the attack at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando was a direct hit to the LGBT community, and certain members of said community were now completely helpless in its aftermath. In some select postings across social media, this anger was conveyed: OUT Magazine stated, âShocking: Gay bisexual blood donations STILL restricted after #Orlando massacre.â Jared Polis, a congressman who identifies as gay, stated, âThereâs an urgent need for blood donors in Orlando. Gay men still canât donate.â But what are the reasons for such a ban? In all honesty, these restrictions have been kept in place for the safety of the public, including the victims of the Orlando shooting. According to the FDA, these restrictions are not meant to be discriminatory, but are meant to prevent a virus known to cause AIDS out of blood donations. Therefore, men who have had sex with another man within the past year arenât able to donate. While this guideline has been softened in the past, it still stands, and for good reason. Prior to screening for HIV, the disease was spread through blood donations. At the end of 2001, according to NBC News, âmore than 14,000 people became infected with HIV through blood transfusions, many of them children. Experts estimate that the risk of being infected with HIV if you get a contaminated blood transfusion is 90 percent.â And because one blood donation will typically go to about three recipients, this is a big deal. And even more important, early infections arenât detectable in tests for the disease. So the ban stands, and there are more exclusions than just gay men. Sex workers, drug users that use injections, those whoâve recently gotten a tattoo and those at risk for the Zika virus are also turned away at blood banks. But why gay men specifically? These men, specifically in Southern regions, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have a 30 percent HIV infection rate, African-American men with a 50 percent lifetime risk of HIV. These numbers could be the result of a number of explanations, a majority of which is a failure to be tested and unsafe sex practices. So with numbers like these, the ban on gay menâs donations stands. Of course, that isnât to say that the ban is universally accepted. Some experts claim the year-long time period is too long (tests now can actually show results within a few days of infection). According to OneBlood, donations make it to recipients within a three day period, and the bank isnât up to date with the FDAâs guidance, meaning any man that has ever had sex with another man isnât eligible to donate, completely negating the one year rule. While restrictions like this feel discriminatory and certainly send a bad message to those that donât understand the statistics, the CDC and FDA stand by them, at least for now, as the blood supply is nearly free of HIV since the ban was put in place. Now, the risk for infection is about one in 1.5 million. These are much more manageable odds. Still, this causes problems when national tragedies, such as the recent tragedy that struck Orlando, call for help. Many Americans want to help, some of which are now unable, whether they want to or not. And for those that are able, only about 10 percent will actually help by donating. (This statistic rises quite a bit in the wake of disasters, but nonetheless, numbers arenât nearly as high as they could be.) So for anyone eligible to help, itâs time to do your part. Visit the Red Cross website to find blood drives in your area even if you arenât native to Orlando, there is always a need for blood donations. You never know when or where the next disaster will hit. According to the Red Cross, âTodayâs tragedy illustrates that itâs the blood already on the shelves that helps during an emergency.â
Tutoring Without a Tutor Speaker
Tutoring Without a Tutor SpeakerTo get better at tutoring there are some things you need to work on before taking a professional tutor as a student. So many times I've found myself with a student who is a trouble maker, who doesn't want to take a lesson or not listen to the instructions. We all know that the student in front of you in class has probably never been tutored, so now they're looking for someone to guide them. I had a very good student who was smart and had no patience with 'old people'. He told me in advance, that he didn't care for having a teacher, and that he wasn't going to be one.How do you get your tutoring students to listen to you? In most cases I've found it's because you're the only one they trust. In fact, this could be your biggest obstacle, because you aren't the teacher they're searching for. You don't actually teach them anything.By teaching yourself and learning your profession you'll be more successful at teaching them. So ask yourself if this is you, how do you fit in your lesson plan with them? I've found that in most cases, the student has a vision of their own, and you must go along with it.The other obstacle to my tutoring success was that I was a little weird, and I knew the student already had an idea of what to expect when they came to a lesson. I'd ask them questions, but they'd answer them badly. That's because I didn't believe them. However, I had their mindset, so I had to try to persuade them to a point where they did believe me.One main thing to remember is that you have to stay open minded. This doesn't mean you have to be just 'grinning and having fun' all the time. The attitude you have toward the students is going to help you as a tutor. If you don't like to be told what to do, and find your students pretty self-centered, then don't be afraid to tell them so. Just remember, you're the teacher, not the student, so don't give up if they don't act the way you would want them to.

What Does it Mean if a Singer is Classically Trained
What Does it Mean if a Singer is Classically Trained Suzy S. What do you think of when you see the words classical singing? Perhaps opera comes to mind? Here, vocal instructor Molly R. explains what being classically trained really means and how it can be applied to any genre of singing Suppose youâre a rock or pop singer looking for a voice teacher while some teachers may stress that theyre all about rocking or teaching a certain vocal method in their bios, many of them mention being classically trained. With that said, what does it mean to be a classically-trained singer? Will it help you achieve the sound you want? Im a classically-trained singer. I received my degree in vocal performance after studying a healthy diet of art songs, oratorios, and opera arias. Now that Im a voice teacher, I find myself counting the number of my classical singing students on just one hand! The rest of my students sing commercial music styles metal, pop, RB, and others. The bottom line is that in order to sing healthfully, you should use the classical technique. Although, this is a different ballgame from classical STYLE. Classical Technique vs. Classical Style Classical technique is a lot less complicated than it sounds. To learn this technique, a few things must happen. First, we must breathe and support very low on our bodies this is coupled with proper balance and posture. Next, we must sing clear, round vowels with an open throat. These are the principles I was most focused on as a young classical singer, tackling songs from the greats like Puccini, Schubert, Barber, and more. Any singing style or genre could surely benefit from these practices, right? Thats exactly right! Classical style comes from artistic choices you make when you sing. For example, you may choose to be a little breathy in a lower register for a sultry jazz tune, or you may make the sound sassier, brighter, and more âin your faceâ (literally!) if youâre belting a Broadway song. In rock, we donât sing the words out nearly as full as we do in an aria itâs much more conversational. (Editors Note: For more on different styles, check out our Ultimate Guide to Singing Styles and Genres!) Use a Healthy Mix Putting together the classical technique with your preferred style is where itâs at, as far as I am concerned! A healthy singing technique and a rockin style are the best of both worlds. Donât assume that all classically-trained teachers wonât welcome other genres, because many of us do! In fact, rock was my first love. Sharing what I know from the classical world has helped my rocker students feel a lot more confident in their abilities. Theyve mentioned an increase in stamina after long rehearsals and gigs because they breathe and support just like the opera singers do (and those singers have a lot of singing to do talk about vocal athletes!). They realize they need not scream or push to produce a lot of good sound. Classical vocal training also stresses the importance of a good warm-up and being mindful of proper vocal hygiene. Although, I wouldnât suggest sticking to a regimen of solely vocal exercises in lessons. Do spend time doing exercises that cover a variety of vocal skills, including flexibility, diction, breath control, and dynamics. All of these things can and should be applied to your songs, whether theyre classical Mozart arias or metal Judas Priest covers! Apply it to Any Genre I hope these facts will ease your fears about your classically-trained teacher âturning you into an opera singer. Good teachers are respectful of your preferred styles of music and should never consider turning you into someone youre not. Quality voice teachers want the best for all of their students and want to ensure many years of healthy singing. The classical technique can do that for you, regardless of the styles you choose to sing. As an example of a legendary rock star who was classically trained, check out Pat Benatar. Sheâs still rockinâ and sounding great in her sixties because she was taught solid classical technique on Brahms art songs long before she was a Heartbreaker! Classically-Trained Pop and Rock Singers A few pop and rock singers have studied the classical technique, believe it or not! In addition to Pat Benatar, Madonna (after she made it big) worked with a teacher on the â24 Italian Songsâ to prepare for her role in âEvita. Lady Gaga worked on classical technique every day for six months to prepare for her big âSound of Musicâ medley at the Oscars. Contrary to popular belief, metal singer extraordinaire Ronnie James Dio did NOT take vocal lessons, but he did say he was greatly influenced by the singing style of tenor and great singer Mario Lanza! I can safely say that my classical training has improved my singing across every genre Ive attempted. Its the perfect starting point for anyone wanting to learn a healthy and correct singing technique. Apply what youve learned from classical training to any genre you want and youll be unstoppable! Happy singing! Post Author: Molly R. Molly R. teaches online and in-person singing lessons in Hayward, CA. Subject Verb Agreement English Writing Online Tutorpace
Subject Verb Agreement English Writing Online Tutorpace The concept of subject and verb agreement is based on the number of the subject. While writing English sentences, one should be aware of correctly identifying whether the subject is singular or plural and accordingly use the verb. Basically a singular subject takes a singular verb and a plural subject takes a plural verb. For example, in the sentence: She writes books, the subject, she is singular and so the singular verb, writes is used. If two subjects are connected by and there should be a plural verb. However, if two subjects are connected by or or nor singular verbs should be used. At the same time, the pronouns, everyone, anyone, each and someone are considered singular and these require singular verbs. Besides, when one expresses quantity of time, money and distances, only singular verbs are used. For example: Ten dollars is a lot of money for this product. It is good to remember that collective nouns like team, staff, and committee are singular subjects and require singular verbs in any context. These are only the main features of subject-verb agreement.
